Benefits of starfruit for health
According to Sisodia, there are many benefits of starfruit for health.
- High Antioxidant: Rich in Vitamin C, serves as a booster antioxidants, strengthen our immune system. Most importantly, monsoons are associated with many diseases or infections and starfruit, rich in vitamin C, can be your ally in boosting immunity. However, as always when it rains, be sure to wash thoroughly to prevent contaminants.
- High in fiber: The fruit’s rich fiber content aids in digestion.
- Aids in weight loss diets: Its low calorie profile can play an important role in weight management.
- Low sugar: For those who are worried about their sugar intake, rest assured, star fruit does not contain too much sugar.

While star fruit has a low glycemic index, Dr Sisodia notes that to make it a suitable choice for diabetics, it is always advisable to consult a diabetes expert or nutritionist before adding it to your regular diet.
“The fruit’s oxalic acid content has the potential to affect those with kidney problems, a concern that our diabetic population should be aware of,” he added.

Dr Sisodia said in general star fruit safe for people in their pregnancy.
However, she warns pregnant women that even though starfruit is generally safe, they should always consult their obstetrician to make sure it is suitable for their fetus.

According to Sisodia, here are some things that need to be considered before consuming star fruit.
Allergies: There is always the possibility of developing or having an allergy to starfruit, so it is ideal to be aware of that possibility.
